Sad Guy

He may be sad, but you don't have to be! Just grab your pen and paper and follow along with cartoonist Bruce Blitz as he teaches you how to draw the man with a broken heart.

SOMETIMES WE USE MATERIALS THAT REQUIRE ADULT SUPERVISION...LIKE SCISSORS...SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY AROUND WHENEVER YOU DO CARTOONING!

1. To create his head, draw a bean shape using a pencil. Switch to marker and draw an elongated C for a nose.
2. Still using your marker, draw 2 small eyes, close together above the nose. Draw his eyebrows going way up because he’s sad.
3. For his frown, draw a long curved line, sloping down. Draw long jagged lines on the top on his head, and dots above his ears for the short part of his hair.
4. For his ear, draw a C shape and a small V for the inside. Draw 2 lines coming out of the bottom of his head for his neck, and underneath, draw a letter M on its side for a shirt collar.
5. Last, draw a line going just above his pupils. Erase the guidelines.
6. Now you will add cartoon effects and accessories to show sadness. Start by drawing a heart in front of his eyes, and use jagged lines to show the break. Draw a large teardrop coming out of his eye.
7. Finally, add some color. Use peach or orange for his skin, leaving some white space to show depth. Use red for the heart, brown for his hair and dark blue for his shirt.
