Behold…The magic is all around you…so muster up your magical powers and get ready to perform the melting ropes trick! All you need to get started is a rope!

piece of kitchen twine (the type made up of two smaller pieces wound together)

SOMETIMES WE USE MATERIALS THAT REQUIRE ADULT SUPERVISION…LIKE SCISSORS SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY AROUND WHENEVER YOU DO MAGIC TRICKS!

  1. Preparation: Cut a length of twine about two feet long. At the center of the piece pull apart the two sections of rope. As you pull them apart, you’ll find that they naturally want to twist back up. Let them twist back on themselves so that they create “fake” ends of the rope.
  2. Performance: Pinch the ends and hold them at the seam you’ve created to show two pieces of twine.
  3. Ask for a spectator to hold out her hand.
  4. Place the pieces in the spectator’s hand and quickly close their hand. Leave one end of each “piece” sticking out of each side of her hand.
  5. Wave your hands over the spectator’s hand.
  6. Pull the two ends of the rope sticking out (this will cause the “fake” ends you created to be absorbed back into the body of the twine).
  7. Ask her to open her hand. Two have become one!
