Learn how to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art! Paint and canvas will get you on your way to your very own masterpiece.

1 pre-stretched canvas
acrylic paints
paintbrush
plastic plate
scissors
foam shapes
cup of water
glue
photocopies of photographs, magazine clippings, fabric or any of your favorite things

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE THINGS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE CRAFT PROJECTS ALONE.

  1. The first thing you need to do is buy a canvas. Pre-stretched canvases are available at any craft or art supply store and come in a wide variety of sizes. By using a canvas for the base of your project, you’re able to create art using any of your favorite things! Photocopies of photographs or magazine clippings are good to use.
  2. Take a minute to think about your design. How can you use the things you have in front of you to make a finished piece? For instance, if you like action figures and comic book heroes, you can create an action hero adventure piece! Laying your supplies out on your canvas before you get started is a great way to figure out what you want to use!
  3. The next step is to cut out all of the photos and images that you’ve decided to include on your canvas.
  4. Pick out some of your favorite acrylic paint colors and paint your canvas. You can paint blocks of solid colors, or be as creative as you like by painting things that match your theme, like planets, buildings, or just some simple swirls and shapes!
  5. Place your images onto the wet canvas by following the arrangement that you planned out in the beginning. Addng images to the wet paint allows you to bypass using glue, because the paint will act as glue! But if you want to glue stuff onto your canvas, allow the paint to dry completely before adding things like beads, foam cut-outs, and stick-on letters.
  6. When you finish adding on all of your images…your artwork is done! Let your painting dry overnight before hanging it on your wall.
