Mosaic Tile

Want your room to have some Mosaic tile style…well with just a few sheets of paper and some glue you can transform a boring bedside table into a fabulous mosaic showpiece!

pencil
scissors
white glue and water
paint
paint tray
paint brush and roller
night stand or other surface to tile

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE THINGS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE CRAFT PROJECTS ALONE.

1. Pick a color to paint the surface you are going to tile; this will be the grout color that you’ll see between your tiles. If your table is already a color you like, there’s no need to paint. When you’re done painting, let your table dry for about an hour.
2. Cut out your tiles using colored pieces of paper. Scrap booking paper works great for this because it is durable and available in lots of great colors and patterned, but you can use construction paper. Place the paper upside down on your work surface and mark it with a ruler by 1 inch increments along all four sides of the paper. Take your ruler and draw lines connecting the marks from side to side both ways creating a grid on your paper.
3. Cut strips out in one direction, and cut each tile out from the strips until you have a nice pile of tiles to work with.
4. Start by drawing out your design.
5. Cut out all your shapes.
6. Create a template of the surface to be tiled so you can then easily transfer your idea onto your night stand.
7. Paint a working area of your night stand surface with your glue/water mixture (2 parts glue, 1 part water). Cut up your paper design in a “broken tile style” and glue everything down. Paint a few more layers of the glue mixture over your tiles to seal the paper and keep it clean.
8. Repeat the above steps for your border. let everything dry for about an hour, and then add 2 or 3 more layers of glue and let it dry for a few more hours.
