REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE OBJECTS THAT COULD BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE PUPPETS ALONE.

  1. Remove the lid of our shoe box and set it off to the side.
  2. Find the middle of both long SIDES of the lower half of the shoe box.
  3. Cut them with safety scissors but make sure you leave the bottom of the box uncut.
  4. Fold the box in half and then cut 2 pieces of foam rubber to fit inside the folded box halves.
  5. Cut a notch for your thumb in one piece of foam, placing the notch against the center fold. Now Glue the foam inside the box.
  6. Glue only the outer edges of the un-notched foam, leaving room for your fingers to slide beneath the foam when you work the mouth.
  7. Take the lid and cut a short side off and tape it above the un-notched foam, leaving room for your fingers to slide under the foam.
  8. Trim the edges of the box so that all 4 sides are even. This will be the top of your shoe box monster.
  9. Take your lid and place it on the top of your shoe box monster. Put the open end in the back. Trace the back side of the lid against the back of the shoe box monster top, creating a flap long enough to fold over the back.
  10. Make a new smaller lid by folding the flap down and taping it to the existing sides of the lid. Check to make sure that the lid fits the top of the shoe box monster and make adjustments as necessary.
  11. Position your new lid on the shoe box monster top. Now place the white pom-poms, using the fold as the mouth.
  12. Trace around the pom-pom eye, then put them aside and remove the lid. Now take your scissors and cut out the area you just traced out on the lid.
  13. Take your lid and place it back on the box and glue on your eyes where you positioned them earlier. The lid should fit over the eyes. Now take your small black pom-pom pupils and glue them to the eyes.
  14. Now cut a piece of red construction paper for the mouth and glue it into place—trimming as necessary. Make sure to fold the mouth closed first before gluing the paper. Then add some pink construction paper gums.
  15. Now freehand cut jagged teeth from white sheet foam and glue them over the pink gums.
  16. Take your construction paper and glue it to the sides, not the lid, of the monster’s top.
  17. Trim the paper so it fits around the monster’s eyes and then scribble lines on the brain for brain wrinkles.
  18. Glue fur to the lid and the lower sides of the shoe box.
  19. Trim the fur up so your monsters suit is nice and clean.
