After Thanksgiving dinner entertain your guests with your very own Thanksgiving Turkey Puppet!

heavy white paper
colored markers
pen or pencil
scissors
glue
thread
straw
shaky eyes
tape

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE OBJECTS THAT COULD BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE PUPPETS ALONE.

  1. Trace the turkey pattern from heavy white paper.
  2. Cut it out.
  3. With your pen, draw 4 feather bands on the tail.
  4. By drawing lines separate the tail from the body, the legs from the body, and the head from the body. Draw the beak, eyes and nostrils.
  5. Color your turkey with markers, starting with the lighter colors. You can color the feather bands alternating yellow, brown and orange.
  6. Fold up the body at the tail.
  7. Fold in the sides of the body so they meet in the front and tape them together.
  8. Fold down the head and pinch the beak together to get the beak ridge.
  9. Glue on some shaky eyes!
  10. To make your puppet talk, start by laying your turkey down flat. Put a piece of thread through a straw and push the straw through the bottom of the turkey.
  11. Push back the head and put a piece of tape inside.
  12. Tape the straw to the inside of the turkey and bend the head back down. Hold the straw with one hand and pull the thread with the other to make him talk!
