There's never a dull moment in the A-TV craft studio! Watch as Laura and her friends create some cute costumes for the boring #2 pencil. Make a perfect pig, a regal lion or any animal you like…all you have to do is follow along with the fun!

scraps of fleece or felt
yarn
scissors
pencil
glue
buttons
pink pipe cleaner or yarn
magic marker or beads

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE THINGS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL, LIKE A SEWING NEEDLE, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE CRAFT PROJECTS ALONE.

  1. You can really use your imagination to make any animal shape you want, but follow these instructions to learn how to make a lion and a pig pencil buddy.
  2. For the lion body: Take a take a yellow piece of felt or fleece fabric, these fabrics work best because they are stiff and will stand up on the end of your pencil. Fold your yellow felt/fleece in half. Cut a rectangle 3 1/2” long and 1” wide. Then at one end trim the fabric to make your rectangle rounded on this one side.
  3. To make the mane on your lion: cut little pieces of brown and yellow yarn into 2” strips, until you have about 30 pieces.
  4. To assemble the lion: take the two pieces of fabric and lay them side by side, like you were going to make a sandwich. Glue the main strips down to one of the pieces of fabric. Place glue and lay the pieces of yarn onto of the line of glue. Now put another line of glue around both sides of the rectangle and the rounded edge. Place second piece of fabric on top.
  5. To make the face: glue seed bead eyes and nose or draw on with a black Sharpy. Draw a mouth coming from the nose. Let dry completely and trim main to desired length. Put on end of pencil.
  6. To make the PIG body: take pink felt or fleece, fold in half and draw a pig shape. After cutting you will have two of the same pieces.
  7. Cut out pig's ears. To make the pig’s tail: take pipe cleaner and cut into a 4” piece. Wrap around the end of a pencil to give it a curly Q tail. To attach the tail you will poke a tiny hole on the back piece of felt. Poke pipe cleaner through the hole.
  8. To assemble the pig: place glue around the edges of the piggy on the bottom piece (be careful of his tail), except the bottom where the pencil will be inserted. Place ears in the desired position and lay down the top piece of fabric. To add the eyes, again you can use seed beads or just a black Sharpy marker. To add the nose, glue down pink button. Make sure the wholes are side by side, not one on top of the other. Let dry completely and insert pencil.
