Put on your very own puppet show this Thanksgiving with a homemade Pilgrim puppet! Want to make some more?

paper bag
colored construction paper
colored markers
pen or pencil
scissors
stapler
glue

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE OBJECTS THAT COULD BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE PUPPETS ALONE.

  1. Place your hand inside the paper bag, turn the bag to it’s side and push the side corner in to make a mouth. Fold it so there’s an upper and lower lip.
  2. Staple a one inch wide thumb pocket into the bottom lip by stapling on each side of the center point, making sure to leave space for your thumb.
  3. Staple a three inch wide finger pocket into the top lip by stapling on each side of the center point, making sure to leave space for your fingers.
  4. Press the body flat. Draw some round eyes with pupils on white paper, cut them out and glue them on.
  5. Make a nose out of orange construction paper, cut it out, and glue it on to your puppet.
  6. Make hair by cutting a piece of construction paper that fits all the way across the top. Cut slits for bangs and glue it onto your puppet.
  7. Draw a t-shirt shape out of brown paper, cut it out and glue it on.
  8. Draw and cut out a collar and cuffs from white construction paper, and glue them onto the shirt.
  9. Draw and cut out a hat out of brown paper and glue it to your puppet’s head.
  10. Draw and cut out hands from tan paper. Glue them to your pilgrim’s cuffs.
  11. Cut a buckle out of yellow paper for his hat and glue it on.
  12. Create a tongue out of pink paper and glue it to the inside of the mouth.
