Get ready to draw a complete Christmas snow scene by starting with the number 8!

paper
pencil
marker
colored chalks or colored pencils
eraser

SOMETIMES WE USE MATERIALS THAT REQUIRE ADULT SUPERVISION...LIKE SCISSORS...SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY AROUND WHENEVER YOU DO CARTOONING!

  1. Frame your space by drawing a rectangle.
  2. Draw the number 8 towards the center. Add a head to make a snowman.
  3. Draw in a brimmed top hat. Put a thick line in the center to create a highlight or a shine. Darken in the sides.
  4. Draw in a sideways V for a carrot nose. Close it up. Draw black dots for the coal eyes and for a smile. Put them going all the way down his body as buttons.
  5. Draw a scarf going around his neck with fringe.
  6. Add straw hair coming out from beneath his hat.
  7. Draw sticks for his arms and add mittens for his bands.
  8. Put a shadow underneath him to show that he is planted on the ground.
  9. Make a tree in the foreground. Use heavier lines to show that it’s closer to us than the snowman. Draw a thick jagged line to the very left of the snowman.
  10. Draw in lighter lines within that shape to show the texture of the bark. Add some horizontal lines to show bumpiness, and a swirl to show a hole.
  11. Draw a line about an inch up from the bottom of the tree, behind the snowman, to show snow.
  12. On the right side of the snowman, draw a small house with thinner lines to show that it’s far away. Draw a door and windows and a back part. Add a chimney with smoke coming out.
  13. Very lightly start at the door and draw a curved line. Draw another line to create the path, making the distance between the 2 lines wider as you get closer to show perspective.
  14. Lightly add some clouds .Add some circles all around for snow. You can also draw some light lines running through your drawing to show wind.
  15. Use pink for his mittens and scarf, orange for his nose, and use grey to shade in your snowman. Use brown for the tree. Color the house in yellow, and use grey again for the smoke coming out of the chimney. Use a little bit of blue to highlight the wind lines.
  16. You can use a frame or a mat to frame your piece!
