All holidays have certain food treats associated with them and Chanukah is no exception. So let Bruce Blitz teach you how to draw a grandma making homemade latkes!

paper
pencil
marker
colored chalks or colored pencils
eraser

SOMETIMES WE USE MATERIALS THAT REQUIRE ADULT SUPERVISION...LIKE SCISSORS...SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY AROUND WHENEVER YOU DO CARTOONING!

  1. Use pencil to draw a circle and 2 curved lines coming out of the bottom, going towards the left as her body. On her face, draw guidelines to show that she is facing 3 quarters to the right. Think of the circle as a sphere.
  2. Draw a curved cross shape. Draw in two dots for eyes, a nose and a smiling mouth.
  3. Switch to marker. Draw in her glasses, nose and smile, giving her a full cheek. Add lips and eyebrows.
  4. Draw in her round ears and add earrings. Draw curved lines for pulled back hair. Add a large oval shape at the top of her head for a bun. Add lines for detail. Put in some bangs.
  5. Go over her head and add a ruffled collar.
  6. Draw in her arm, starting with a sleeve shape. Draw in her arm and thumb, having her hand holding a plate.
  7. Draw in her body and add in a waistline. Draw in her apron tie and add in a few apron lines.
  8. Draw a line coming out from her hand for the plate. Draw in her other arm, stopping behind the other one since it’s in the background.
  9. Erase all pencil lines.
  10. Draw in a large stack of latkes sitting on top of the plate. Draw several of them, shaped like small pancakes.
  11. Color her face in peach, use red for her lips and cheek. Add in magenta polka dots for her dress and brown for the latkes.
  12. Use blue to draw wavy lines coming out of the latkes for steam. Using your parker draw in a heart near her head and color it red.
  13. Add a caption above her head: HAPPY CHANUKAH. Draw a thought balloon around it, with a pointer.
