It's Christmas and Santa's elves are hard at work making toys when all of a sudden the factory shuts down! It's up to the new elves to save the day, but can they do it?

red felt
white felt
black felt
tan felt
white long shag fur
stuffing
white pencil or crayon
3 tan pom poms
6 white pom poms
2 black pom poms
scissors
black permanent marker
glue

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE OBJECTS THAT COULD BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE PUPPETS ALONE.

  1. Trace and cut out the patterns using the corresponding felt colors: Red – Two body pieces (only cut one mouth opening for the front body piece).
  2. Tan - Face (trace and cut the Mouth Slot on the Face), Head Cushion (cut 2).
  3. Black – Mouth liner.
  4. White – Coat trim at bottom, hat rim, and around the wrists.
  5. Fold down the mouth flap and glue the black felt mouth liner at the curved edges. Glue only the edges because your index finger will be slipping inside to make the jaw move later. Turn the red felt front body piece over and glue the black felt mouth lining down at the top.
  6. Place the back of red felt body on top of the red felt front body and line the edges up. Glue the edges together, leaving the very bottom edge open.
  7. Glue the tan face felt to the red felt front body piece.
  8. Position the pom-poms to make a nose with nostrils, eyes with pupils, and a top for the hat. Use white and black pom poms for the eyes and pupils, tan for the nose and a white pom pom for the top of the hat and for his buttons.
  9. Cut and glue strips of white felt around the wrists, around the hat rim, and around the bottom of the coat.
  10. Trim a beard out of the long shag white fur to fit around the mouth, back of the head, and under the nose. Make eye brows out of small pieces of fur.
  11. To help fill out the top of the head, glue together the head cushion felt on the edges. First glue around the top and, when the glue is dry, push some stuffing inside. Now, close up the edge with glue and insert the entire head cushion into the top of the head and hat.
  12. Place your hand inside to operate your Elf. Thumb goes into left glove. Index Finger goes into bottom jaw (for talking). Middle Finger goes up into head. Ring finger and pinky go into right glove.
