green felt
yellow felt
red felt
stuffing
scissors
black permanent marker
glue
googly eyes

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE OBJECTS THAT COULD BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE PUPPETS ALONE.

  1. Trace and cut out the patterns using the corresponding felt colors: Green – Two body pieces (only cut one mouth opening for the front body piece). Red – Mouth liner.
  2. Yellow - Face (trace and cut the Mouth Slot on the Face), Head Cushion (cut 2).
  3. Glue the yellow face felt to the green felt front body piece.
  4. Fold down the mouth flap and glue the red felt mouth liner at the curved edges. Glue only the edges because your index finger will be slipping inside to make the jaw move later. Turn the green felt front body piece over and glue the red felt mouth lining down at the top.
  5. Place the back of green felt body on top of the green felt front body and line the edges up. Glue the edges together, leaving the very bottom edge open.
  6. Cut and glue strips of green felt along the sides and back of the Kwanzaa Corn to make the corn husks.
  7. Glue down googly eyes.
  8. Draw corn kernels lightly with the black marker. Also add eyebrows if desired. Let it dry for about an hour.
  9. To help fill out the top of the head, glue together the head cushion felt on the edges. First glue around the top and, when the glue is dry, push some stuffing inside. Now, close up the edge with glue and insert the entire head cushion into the top of the head.
  10. Place your hand inside to operate the ear of Kwanzaa Corn.Thumb goes into left husk. Index Finger goes into bottom jaw (for talking). Middle Finger goes up into head. Ring finger and pinky go into right husk.
