Celebrate Chanukah with a homemade dreidel puppet. All you need are some markers, paper and tape to get this puppet project started.

poster board
colored markers
pen or pencil
scissors
tape

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE OBJECTS THAT COULD BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE PUPPETS ALONE.

  1. Trace your dreidel pattern from the heavy poster board supplied on the website printout.
  2. Cut out your pattern.
  3. Fold your pattern at each section where the points come in. This is also where the edge of each side of the dreidel would be. Then, fold the smaller tabs. These folds should be perpendicular to the others you have made.
  4. Using your folds as a guide, tape the sides of the dreidel together, starting with the center part. Next, tape the bottom and top of your dreidel.
  5. With markers, draw faces with the dreidel symbols on each side. The faces can tell the story of the Four Kingdoms. You want to draw your first face with his mouth closed and the second with his mouth open, so when your dreidel spins, the face will be animated. Get creative and draw the others with different expressions.
  6. Shade the faces and top sides of your dreidel in with colored markers. You can also put the Dreidel Puppet on top of a pencil or pencil for more performance mobility.

Lynnette had a great question from her teddy bear puppet, Kim! Kim asked how I thought of making the Convert-a-Bear Puppet. Well Kim, when I was in high school... [Read More]
