REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE THINGS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL, LIKE A SEWING NEEDLE, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE CRAFT PROJECTS ALONE.

  1. To make the body of the butterfly: Cut two different color pieces of felt about 5” square. Draw a butterfly pattern you like.
  2. Trace butterfly on two pieces of felt. Cut out butterflies. Cut any designs you would like into the wings (show samples). Glue two pieces of felt together. Fold wings in half and place a book on top while glue is drying.
  3. To make the antenna: Cut one piece of wire about 4”. Fold in half. Add two beads and fold each side in half again.
  4. To make the spine of the butterfly: Cut a piece of pipe cleaner about 3” long. Lay the antenna next to the pipe cleaner but make sure the beads stick out about 1/2”.
  5. Take another piece of felt and wrap it around the pipe cleaner and antenna. Secure with a string wrapped around all. Glue spine to belly of the butterfly.
  6. Attach the butterfly to the hair clip (or attach to the end of a pencil or tie on strings to hang): Glue spine to the top of the hair clip. Prop it up carefully so it doesn’t fall over until dry.
