Did you know you can make an awesome puppet out of an old sweatshirt? This puppet is baaaad!

sweatshirt
4” plastic food container lid
stuffing
red felt
long shag gray fur
two 1” white pom-poms
two 1/4" black pom-poms
permanent black marker
scissors
glue

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE OBJECTS THAT COULD BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE PUPPETS ALONE.

  1. Get an old sweatshirt and cut a sleeve off of it. Next, measure your arm with the sweatshirt sleeve, marking it at the elbow before cutting. Cut the sleeve at the mark and Set the sleeve aside. Take the excess part of your sleeve and cut near the arm pit so that you have one open piece of fabric.
  2. Using the puppet patterns, cut two ears and two legs from the leftover sweatshirt fabric. Cut through only one layer of the fabric.
  3. Put glue around the edges of the legs and fold them over. Set them aside to dry.
  4. Stretch the opening of your sweatshirt sleeve around the edge of your food container lid. This will be the lips of your sheep which will fold in half as he “talks.” Trace a circle of red felt, using the container lid, and then glue them together.
  5. Place the mouth inside the sleeve of the sweatshirt with the red facing out. Make sure there is an even lip of sweatshirt fabric around the mouth, then glue the fabric around the edge of the mouth, covering the plastic lip of the lid.
  6. Measure out the fur with your arm the same way you did the sweatshirt sleeve. Wrap it around your arm and cut out as much as you need.
  7. Now wrap it around your sweatshirt sleeve, making sure the seam is at the back of your puppet. Leave about 3 or 4 inches at the top for his eyes and ears. Put glue right at the seam and line it up to attach the fur. You should also put glue around the edge of the wrist or neck of your puppet. Let dry.
  8. Fill the legs with stuffing, then glue each leg closed. Attach the legs on either side of the puppet, about 3' from the top of the puppet. Spread the long shag fur apart and glue the leg against the fabric beneath the fur. Let the legs dry for about 20 minutes.
  9. Plan the position of the eyes on the top of the head at the edge of the fur. Use white pom-poms for the eyeballs and black pom-poms for the pupils.
  10. Put on your puppet. Take 2 extra sweatshirt pieces and fold them over a bit to create ears. Glue them on behind the eyes. And that’s all there is to it!
