Butterfly Puppet

Grab your glue and glitter because puppeteer John Kennedy is going to show you how to make a beautiful butterfly puppet!

one sheet of colored poster board
coat hanger wire
pipe cleaner
sequins
colored markers
scissors
wire cutters
pen or pencil
glitter glue
glue
plastic plate

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE OBJECTS THAT COULD BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE PUPPETS ALONE.

1. Trace the butterfly pattern onto your poster board with a pen. Cut it out and fold it in half.
2. Cut your wire hanger, removing the hook, and fold it in the center.
3. Place it on the butterfly and mark where the 2 rods are. Now cut out two rectangles from the extra posterboard that will hold the rods in place. Line up the rods and glue the 2 pieces of posterboard over them. Let this dry for about a half hour.
4. Use your pen to draw a design.
5. Color your butterfly using colored markers.
6. Spread a little bit of glue on the lines you made for veins. Sprinkle the glitter over the lines. Shake off the excess glitter, catching it with a paper plate.
7. Create a few dots with glue and add sequins.
8. To create antennas, take a pipe cleaner, fold it in half and give it a twist 4 or 5 times. Spread the top out like antennas, and glue it on the butterfly’s center fold. Use the coat hanger to animate your butterfly.
