One of the coolest things about cartooning is that you can give life to any ordinary object. Learn how to turn an overstuffed washing machine into a funny character!

paper
pencil
marker
colored chalks or colored pencils
eraser

SOMETIMES WE USE MATERIALS THAT REQUIRE ADULT SUPERVISION...LIKE SCISSORS...SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY AROUND WHENEVER YOU DO CARTOONING!

  1. Draw a tilted square, and turn it into a cube by adding lines at the top. Add a rectangle at the top to turn it into a washing machine. Add a few circles for the controls.
  2. Draw the door at the top where the clothes would go.
  3. Draw 2 large ovals for eyes, closer together at the top. Draw lines to make them half closed. Angle the lines differently to show discomfort. Draw a long, large nose.
  4. Make the pupils crossed and lightly double the lines inside the eyes.
  5. Add thick eyebrows, one higher than the other. Add lines under the eyes.
  6. Draw large, puffy cheeks and a jagged line for a mouth so he looks very sick. Add a small lower lip.
  7. Underneath him but not touching him, add a ground line to show that he’s floating. Draw a wet puddle around that line, and add a few vertical strokes inside for shine.
  8. Add some lines around the bottom for a ghosting effect and draw in drops of perspiration and water. Draw lines coming out the top for more water, and even some clouds of steam. Add a sock and a t –shirt that just came out!
  9. Color him in orange. Use peach for the cheeks. Add some red and green to the cheeks to make him look sick. Add some red to his eyes as well. Use blue for the puddle, also leaving some white space. Use a little orange for the ground line. You can also use blue for the water.
  10. Write in “CHUG” a few times to his right side, for a sound effect.
