How would you like to turn the letter B into a Bumble Bee that says BE my Valentine? Just grab some paper and a pen and get ready to draw along with Bruce Blitz.

paper
pencil
marker
colored chalk or pencils
eraser

SOMETIMES WE USE MATERIALS THAT REQUIRE ADULT SUPERVISION...LIKE SCISSORS...SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY AROUND WHENEVER YOU DO CARTOONING!

  1. Draw a letter “B” with marker. In the top part, draw 2 dots for eyes and eyebrows going up and off the shape. Add a big smile, doubling that line.
  2. Draw in 2 antennae off the top of the “B.” Add his arms coming out of the center, in a straight line. Add stripes to the bottom part of the “B” and fill them in.
  3. Using your pencil draw 2 circles at the ends of the arms for hands. Switch back to marker to draw in 4 fingers, using the circles as templates. Add a line in the hands for a palm.
  4. Draw in his wings on his left side, one coming out above the arm and one below. Add in some light lines for details.
  5. Draw in 2 legs, bent at the knee, and little oval-shaped booties for feet.
  6. Add some color: use light blue to trace the wings’ detail lines, yellow for his body, red for his cheeks.
  7. Use red to add some motion lines around the wings and body and lines to show he’s speaking. Switch back to marker and write “BEE MY VALENTINE!” Draw a talk balloon around it with a pointer going towards the head, and then draw a couple hearts around the words in red.
