This year why not give a really unique valentine to your friends and family! Join puppeteer John Kennedy and learn how to create a fantastic Valentine's Day greeting card puppet!

heavy card stock paper
envelope
colored markers
pen or pencil
scissors
tape

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE OBJECTS THAT COULD BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE PUPPETS ALONE.

  1. For the Sender: Fold your card stock in half.
  2. Trace the pattern for the face on the front of the card. Make sure it is centered. The top part will be the face above the lips, and the bottom will be the chin below the lips.
  3. Trace an angel body pattern on the inside of the card. Make sure it is centered.
  4. Finish out the lip line on each of the tabs on the top and bottom parts of the template on the front of the card. Draw a face on the top part. Draw a turned up nose, 2 big round eyes and hair parted to the right side. Draw the outline of his chin on the bottom half. Draw in some teeth and a tongue inside his mouth.
  5. Give your angel body a short sleeve shirt and finish off his shoulders. Draw a collar and the bottom of his shirt. Draw in his shoes.
  6. Go back to the front of your card. Color his face peach, his hair brown, and his mouth red. Use pink for the tongue and black for the back of the throat.
  7. For the angel, make his shirt pink and his pants blue. Make the heart red. Color his arms and neck peach.
  8. Write the inscription inside your card. “Happy Valentine’s Day!” is a good one. Sign your card, stick it in an envelope and mail it off with the remaining instructions!
  9. For the Receiver: To create the puppet, cut out both patterns.
  10. Fold the tabs on the face down, and fold the lips down. Then, fold it in the middle of the mouth on the little registration marks.
  11. With a small piece of tape, tape each tab to the back of the mouth by folding them back. Do the same thing for the chin. You can also roll some tape to place inside the mouth.
  12. To attach the body, put a piece of tape on the backside of the body at the neck, and tape it on the inside behind the chin.

Hello Puppeteers! Thank you to Connor, Jessika, Lynnette, Sabrina, Kathryn, and Morgan for writing in to my blog and for being fans of my puppet projects. Lynnette had a great question from her teddy bear puppet, Kim! Kim asked how I thought of making the Convert-a-Bear Puppet. Well Kim, when I was in high school... [Read More]
