Even if you don’t see any leprechauns this St. Patrick’s Day…you can still capture their spirit with this Leprechaun Hat!

2 sheets green poster board
glue
scissors
self stick green foam
yellow felt
marker
bowl (large enough to fit around your head)

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE THINGS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE CRAFT PROJECTS ALONE.

  1. Take a bowl that is about the size of your head, and lay it down on your green poster board. Trace around the bowl. You can always use construction paper if you don’t have poster board.
  2. Use that circle as a guide for your brim, which should be about 6 inches apart from the original circle. Trace the brim.
  3. Use your marker to divide the inner circle in half, then into 1/4ths, then into 1/6ths and 1/8ths.
  4. Fold your poster board in half and make a small cut in the interior of the circle.
  5. Cut along all those lines without cutting into the brim, and making sure the flaps stay attached.
  6. Fold each piece up.
  7. Now cut around the outside circle.
  8. Set the brim aside, and get a new sheet of poster board. Turn it long ways and cut it in half down the middle. You should have two long green rectangles now.
  9. Roll up one of your long rectangles into a tube, to make up the body of your hat. Make sure it fits the brim.
  10. Tape the inside.
  11. Turn the hat over and tape the brim flaps to the body to attach the brim.
  12. Turn the hat back over and grab some yellow felt. Create a band by folding it in half and cutting a strip that is about 2 inches wide. Use your first strip as a guide for your second strip. Create a total of 3 strips.
  13. Unfold all your strips and apply glue.
  14. Stick them onto the hat to create a brim. Don’t worry if your seams don’t match up perfectly.
  15. Cut out a bunch of different shapes of shamrocks from your green sticky felt.
  16. Grab your largest shamrock and remove the backing. Use that one to cover any seams you might have in the front. Stick the rest of them all over your hat.
