It's time for the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Hopper's Field. Join in the fun as the little rabbits learn that life's not a race and sometimes you have to slow down to get the things you want.

tan short shag fur
14 small brown pom-poms
3 medium brown pom-poms
2 medium white pom-poms
1 large white pom-pom
1 medium pink pom-pom
2 small black pom-poms
rabbit template
tan felt
cotton stuffing
scissors
glue
black marker

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE OBJECTS THAT COULD BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE PUPPETS ALONE.

  1. Print out your rabbit template and trace it onto your short shag fur with a marker, including the ears and slit. Check that the fur is flowing downward when you trace. This will be the back of your puppet.
  2. Trace the same template beneath the first one but without the ears and slit. This will be the front of the rabbit.
  3. Trace two more ears onto your tan felt. These will be the insides of your rabbit’s ears.
  4. Cut out all of your templates and ears with scissors, including the slit in the first template.
  5. Place a small bead of glue around the outermost edges of the legs on back part of the rabbit.
  6. Attach the legs on the back of the rabbit to the legs on the front of your rabbit. The legs have to match up perfectly in order for your fingers to go inside later.
  7. Add a bead of glue around the edges of the rest of the back body except for the ears.
  8. Line up the fur on the top and bottom with the rest of your front pattern and seal it together.
  9. Place glue on the back of your felt ears and attach them to the tops of the ears on your rabbit. Let everything dry for about thirty minutes.
  10. Stuff the rabbit by inserting stuffing into its head and chest through the finger slit in the back. Don’t stuff the legs because you’ll need room for your fingers.
  11. Place a bead of glue and three small brown pom-poms on the seam of each foot to make toes.
  12. Add glue and four more small brown pom-poms to the seam of each hand to make fingers and thumbs.
  13. Next, you’ll want to add facial features. Trim off some of the fur around the areas where you will want to add them.
  14. Place three medium brown pom-poms to the area in the face you just shaved to make cheeks and a mouth.
  15. Glue them down.
  16. Glue two medium white pom-poms above the cheeks to make eyes.
  17. Add the small black pom-poms to the white ones to make pupils.
  18. Glue a pink pom-pom onto the cheeks of the rabbit to make a nose.
  19. Finally, turn the bunny over and glue your medium white pom-pom to the rabbit just above the finger slit to make the tail.
  20. To animate your puppet, insert your fingers through the slit in the back and into the legs.
  21. Press your fingers in the feet against the table top and wiggle them to make your rabbit run!
