Spike and Mike Cartoon

SOMETIMES WE USE MATERIALS THAT REQUIRE ADULT SUPERVISION...LIKE SCISSORS...SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY AROUND WHENEVER YOU DO CARTOONING!

1. Using your pencil, start by drawing 2 triangular shapes with curved edges, like guitar picks. One should be smaller than the other. The smaller one will be the dog and the larger, its owner. These will be guidelines for their faces.
2. Using your marker, in the middle of the dog’s face, draw a squarish oval for a nose. Leave a bit of a white space for shine but fill most of it in black. Draw the same nose on the owner but don’t fill it in and add 2 dots for nostrils instead.
3. Go back to the dog and draw a backwards 'S' for a mouth and a lower lip to show a scowl. Give his master the same.
4. Give the dog a few pointed teeth and square teeth for his master.
5. Draw 2 cheek lines on either side of the dog’s mouth, starting from the nose, for heavy jowls, and draw in lines for puffy cheeks on either side of the face. Do the same for his master. Draw in their round chins. Add a chin line on both too.
6. For the eyes, draw an upside-down 'U' above each nose and add big black dots for pupils.
7. Draw in thick eyebrows pointed down, so they both look angry. Add a couple lines around the eyes for intensity.
8. Give the dog some whiskers using dots, and do the same for the man, for stubble.
9. Draw a curved line for the top of the dogs head and add funny ears, turned at right angles. Finish off the shape of his head.
10. Give the man human ears on either side of his head and simulate the same shape of the dog’s ears by adding straight, wacky hair going pointing outward the same way the dog’s ears do. Finish the shape of the man’s head.
11. Erase all pencil lines. Use grey to color in the dog. Use light peach for the man’s face with highlights of grey around where he needs a shave. Use red for their cheeks.
