green sheet foam
4 red pipe cleaners

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE THINGS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE CRAFT PROJECTS ALONE.

  1. Cut about 3 feet of gold foil wrapping paper. Fold it over, in half. If you’re using regular wrapping paper instead of foil, be sure to apply glue between the folded layers to help it keep its form.
  2. Grab a bowl that’s the size of your head, place it on the table upside-down, and put the paper on the top of bowl. Press the paper around the bowl to mold it over it.
  3. Tape around the base brim of the hat to help the hat keep its shape.
  4. Grab your wrapping paper and cut 4 more sheets.
  5. Slip one sheet underneath each corner of the brim. Fold the sheet over and apply a little bit of glue to make the hat larger. Continue until you’ve glued down all 4 sheets and your hat is square-shaped.
  6. Cut another strip of wrapping paper to cover the band of tape around the base brim.
  7. Turn your hat over and glue the rest of the sides in place.
  8. Set your hat aside to dry for about a half hour. Afterwards, curl up the edges of the wrapping paper to make a rounded outer brim.
  9. Take your green foam and cut out a zigzag shape. You can also use construction paper or paint. You may need two strips to fit all the way around your hat.
  10. Glue the zigzags onto the base of your hat.
  11. Take 4 red pipe cleaners and twist them together to create one long pipe cleaner.
  12. Bend the long pipe cleaner into a zigzag pattern.
  13. Glue the zigzag over your green foam. Set your hat aside to dry for about 20 minutes.
  14. Flip your hat over and place it inside the bowl. Glue your red ball fringe all the way around the outer brim of your hat. Trim the edge. Set aside to dry.
  15. Bend up the brim of your hat to make it look nicer. Finally, smooth out the ridge that the bowl made from the inside of your hat.
