Join Puppeteer John Kennedy as he makes a truly gross, eye-popping puppet! As you push your thumb forward in your puppet its eye pops out of the socket, exposing the yarn veins attached to the back of the puppets eye. GROSS!

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE OBJECTS THAT COULD BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE PUPPETS ALONE.

  1. Start by making the eye ball. Fold a piece of white felt in half and use scissors to cut out a set of circles. By folding the felt in half, you can cut the two circle shapes you need at the same time and insure that they’re the same size. They should be about 3 ½ to 4 inches in diameter.
  2. Take some black felt and cut a one inch diameter circle out of it. This will be the pupil for your eye ball.
  3. Take one of your white felt circles and apply glue all around its edges except for about two inches on one side.
  4. Place your other white circle over the first one and seal it along the glued edges. The two inches of unglued, unattached felt will be an opening for stuffing and your thumb later.
  5. Place glue onto your black pupil and stick it into the center of your eye. Be sure to let everything dry.
  6. Once everything is dry, insert some stuffing into your eye ball through the two inch opening. Be sure to distribute it evenly inside.
  7. Place your glove on your hand and insert your thumb into the eye ball. Let the eye ball rest in the palm of the glove’s hand. Remove your hand from the glove while leaving its thumb inside.
  8. Seal the thumb of the glove inside the eye ball by applying glue around the base of the thumb and pressing the open edges of the eyeball down into the glue. Be sure to do this on all sides of the thumb. Let it dry.
  9. Cut out a 1 ½ inch wide strip of fake fur long enough to cover all of the glove’s fingers. Fold it over the tips of the fingers and cut it in half along the fold. Pull away any excess.
  10. Leaving a small gap of space between each finger on the glove, glue them down at the tips to the back side of your fur and roll the fur over them to cover them. Let them dry. Now your puppet has a moveable eye brow.
  11. Cut out 2 ½ feet of red yarn and lace it back and forth between the back of the eye ball and the palm of the glove, using glue to attach it. This will create yucky red veins. Let this all dry.
  12. Use red and yellow markers to make more veins and jaundice marks on the front of your eye ball to make it really gross.
  13. To operate the puppet, place your hand in the glove. Wiggle your fingers to manipulate the brow and your thumb to make the eye ball bulge out!
