Dump Truck

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE THINGS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE CRAFT PROJECTS ALONE.

1. On a sheet of black foam board, lay out your large Chinese food container with your strawberry container directly behind it. Trace a rectangle big enough to stretch under both of these together and cut it out with an X-acto knife. This will be the chasse or base for the dump truck.
2. Cut out two more pieces of foam board as long and wide as the strawberry container. These will be used to elevate the bed of the dump truck.
3. Glue the two smaller pieces of foam together. Then glue them to the back end of the base and let them all dry for about twenty minutes.
4. Open up your small Chinese food container and take out the handle. Close it back up and glue the top of it to the bottom of the large Chinese food container. Hold them together until the glue sets. This will be the cab of your dump truck.
5. Take two of your silver pipe cleaners and fold them so that one end is slightly larger then the other on each. Twist each one together and curve down the ends. These will be the exhaust pipes for the cab.
6. Take your third silver pipe cleaner and cut it into four equally long strips. Poke four holes in a straight line on each side of the front of the cab (bottom of the small container). Insert the ends of the pipe cleaners into the holes side by side. Now the cab of your dump truck has a grill! Next, cut a gold pipe cleaner in half. Take each half and bend an inch of it to a 90 degree angle. Coil the rest of it into a spiral on each to create headlights. Poke two holes into the front of the cab where the lights should go and stick the coils through the holes.
7. Draw windows and doors onto your dump truck cab, as well as any other decoration you like.
8. Glue your pipe cleaner exhaust onto either side of the back of the cab.
9. Glue the cab to your chasse/base in front of the smaller pieces of foam board. Be sure to tuck the handle of the large Chinese food container underneath the chasse to keep it out of the way. Set this aside to dry for another twenty minutes.
10. Screw three round furniture pads onto each long side of the chasse for wheels. Don’t screw them too tightly or they won’t be able to spin.
11. Cut the lid off of your strawberry container and tape the bottom to the elevated portion of the chasse. Only tape it at the back so it can flip up. Now your dump truck has a flappable bed and is ready to roll!
