Grab a deck of Cards and join host Ryan Oaks as he teaches you how to mystify your friends. All it takes little slight of hand and a lot of magic.

Deck of playing cards

SOMETIMES WE USE MATERIALS THAT REQUIRE ADULT SUPERVISION…LIKE SCISSORS SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY AROUND WHENEVER YOU DO MAGIC TRICKS!

  1. Pull out 13 “special” cards from the deck, each one with a different number and face on it. The cards are numbers 2-10 and the face cards are Jack, Queen, King, and Ace. You will need one of each card. Be sure to pick a random selection of suits so that the cards look as though they were shuffled together.
  2. After picking the 13 “special” cards, place the cards in this order: 10, 6, King, 5, 9, 4, Jack, 3, 8, 2, Ace, Queen, 7 (10 should be on bottom of the pile and 7 should be the card on the top of the pile of 13 cards).
  3. Now place these 13 cards on the top of the rest of the deck.
  4. Next, you need to execute a “false shuffle.” To do that, hold the deck of cards in your right hand with your “special” 13 on top. Place your right thumb on the bottom end of the deck and your fingers on the top end. Then, use your left thumb to slide a chunk of cards off of the front of the deck. Allow these cards to fall into your left hand. Continue to slide chunks of cards from your right hand into your left hand. As you slide cards off, shuffle them into the cards already in your left hand. This will give the appearance that you are shuffling the deck. Be sure to stop pulling cards before you arrive at the “special” 13 cards. Those cards must not be pulled from your right hand.
  5. After you have pulled about 30-40 cards from your right hand, tilt the cards in your left hand forward (so that the audience cannot see the face of the card). Place the remaining cards from your right hand on top of the deck of cards in your left hand (the remaining cards should include your “special” 13 cards). Now it appears as though you have shuffled the cards, while really keeping the “special” 13 in order.
  6. Next, deal 13 cards from the top of the deck face down into a pile on the table. Keep in mind that the “special” 13 will now be in reserve order.
  7. Pick up the “special” 13 and fan the cards out to the audience to prove that the cards are a random collection of cards. Be sure to explain to the audience that every deck of cards has four suites and each suit has 13 cards (Ace-King).
  8. Flip the cards face down in your hand so that you can “unshuffle” the cards. Take the top card and place it on the bottom of the deck. Then, take the next card and put it face up on the table. Repeat. Place the next card on the bottom of the pile and turn the next card over on the table. Continue to put one card under the pile and one on the table until all of the cards are gone.
  9. Now you can wow your audience! Show the audience the cards on the table and the order that they have appeared in: Ace-King. This trick is mathematic, so it will work every time if done correctly and no one will be the wiser!
