Does Origami float your boat? Why don’t you give it a try? Join host Barbara Pearl as she teaches you how to make this cool Floating Boat origami design!

A standard 6 or 8 inch square piece of Origami paper
Scissors

REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE THINGS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE PROJECTS ALONE.

  1. Place your paper on the table with the colored side facing upward. Fold it in half to create a rectangle or “book fold.”
  2. Take top flap of your book fold and fold it in half against original folded edge. Crease sharply.
  3. Turn the paper over and repeat Step 2 with the other flap. Unfold that flap and fold the top left and right corners down against the line of symmetry you’ve just created.
  4. Take the bottom left and right corners and fold them up against the line of symmetry. Be sure to fold up all of the bottom corners, not just the top layers. This will create triangles on either side of the paper.
  5. Take the top half of the paper (which should only be one layer) and fold it back down to the original folded edge.
  6. Your boat should be taking shape now. Open up the top edges and push out the sides to finish it. To test if it really floats, place a penny in it for balance and place it in a tub of water. You can also experiment with different kinds of paper to see which paper boats float the best.
  7. To transform your boat into something special, fold it in half, unfold it and snip it in the middle about a quarter of the way up with scissors. Fold back the edges on either side of the snip on both sides, making the folds narrower towards the ends. Lift the boat up and connect the sides together to create a talking puppet!
