REMEMBER THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS WORK UNDER ADULT SUPERVISION. SOMETIMES WE USE THINGS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL, LIKE SCISSORS, SO DON'T EVER ATTEMPT TO MAKE THESE CRAFT PROJECTS ALONE.
- Using the creases as guidelines, fold the bottom of your apron up until the bottom of the apron meets the ties. Turn the apron over and cut off the top of the apron above the strings. Make sure you do not cut off the ties.
- With a needle and thread, sew the remaining folded apron together along the outer left and right side seams using a simple stitch. If you’re not comfortable sewing, just use glue. Once your sides are sealed together, stitch or glue the remaining creases in the apron together, leaving the top unfolded parts of the apron open to make three pockets for your belt. Be sure to knot off the ends of your thread when you’re done if you sew.
- Time to decorate. For this example, you’ll be shown a caterpillar turning into a butterfly but you can do whatever you want using felt, paint/markers, and/or stitching. Draw your caterpillar onto your green felt and cut it out.
- Glue your green caterpillar onto the front of the right pocket of your belt.
- Glue a googly eye onto your caterpillar’s head.
- Draw a smile on your caterpillar’s face using a marker.
- Draw a tree branch onto your brown felt and cut it out.
- Glue your branch onto the center pocket of your belt.
- On your lighter brown felt, draw an oval shape with a triangle on the top for a chrysalis or cocoon for your caterpillar. Cut it out.
- Glue the chrysalis onto the center pocket just underneath the end of the branch so that it looks like it hangs off of it.
- Draw a pair of butterfly wings onto your purple felt and cut it out.
- Glue the wings onto the front of the left pocket of your belt.
- For the body of the butterfly, draw it on yellow felt and cut it out.
- Glue the yellow body into the center of the wings.
- Decorate the butterfly wings using blue felt. Draw and cut out four small circles to go inside them.
- Glue your blue circles onto your wings.
- Now you can decorate the face of your butterfly. Glue two googly eyes onto the head.
- For the antennae, bend a piece of gold pipe cleaner in half and twist the ends into spirals.
- Glue the antennae onto the top of the head. Set everything aside to dry for 20 minutes and then you’re ready to garden in it!
