Nothing's quite as sweet as the Vanishing Sugar trick! Join Magician Ryan Oakes as he shows you some amazing Dinner Table Magic! You'll be sure to have the whole table saying "How’d you do that?!"

A packet of sugar
A cup or receptacle of some kind for the sugar

SOMETIMES WE USE MATERIALS THAT REQUIRE ADULT SUPERVISION…LIKE SCISSORS SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY AROUND WHENEVER YOU DO MAGIC TRICKS!

  1. To prepare for the trick, take a sugar packet and pull it apart from the middle using your fingertips. In one of the pulled-out sides of the packet, tear a small hole, about half an inch to and inch wide. Make sure no one sees you do any of this. If you’re out at a restaurant, you may want to wait until your audience excuses themselves to the restroom or excuse yourself.
  2. Flatten the packet back out and empty the contents into cup or receptacle. Again, make sure no one sees you do this. Shake the packet around to empty it as much as possible if you must.
  3. Get rid of your cup/evidence and place the sugar packet back on the table. Be sure to remember where you put it if it’s among others so you pick the right one later.
  4. Time to perform the trick! Pull out your prepared sugar packet and show to your audience. Show it fairly with your hands open.
  5. Tear the packet open along the hole you’ve already created, removing any trace of preparation on your part.
  6. Open the packet and prepare to pour the sugar into your empty free hand.
  7. Show that your hand is empty and make a fist. Pretend to pour the sugar from the packet into the fist. If there’s a little extra sugar left in the packet from before that falls through, that will make it even more convincing.
  8. Now do a little acting. Hold your fist like there is actually sugar in it and pretend to blow excess off the top.
  9. Snap your fingers, say a magic phrase if you like, and open your fist to show that the sugar is gone!
