Join Magician Ryan Oakes as he shows you how to cut a banana -- without peeling it! “Impossible,” you say? Not if you know the secret to the Banana-rama trick!

A banana
A needle and thread

SOMETIMES WE USE MATERIALS THAT REQUIRE ADULT SUPERVISION…LIKE SCISSORS SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY AROUND WHENEVER YOU DO MAGIC TRICKS!

  1. To prepare, thread a needle with the help of an adult.
  2. Next you need to slice your banana in three different places with the needle. To do that, find one of the ridges in the peel where you want to slice first. Stick the needle through the peel at that ridge. Again, you may need some adult help for this.
  3. Push the needle across the banana to the next ridge, keeping it as close to the inside of the peel as possible. Bring it the rest of the way through the peel at that ridge so that the thread runs all of the way through.
  4. Thread the needle back through the hole it just came out of, pushing it out through another ridge, pulling the slack of the thread through with it. Be careful not to pull too tightly. This will bring the thread back through the second hole. Continue in this fashion all of the way around the banana, until you’ve brought the needle and thread back out all of the way through the original hole. This may take a few tries.
  5. Now the needle should be threaded all of the way around the banana under the peel. To make a slice, grab the threads, hold the banana near the first needle hole and pull.
  6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 two more times at two other spots in the banana. This will create three different slices. The best part of this is that the holes you’ve made will turn brown and blend in with the natural appearance of the banana!
  7. Now you’re ready to perform the trick. Peel the banana and wow your friends with how it has already been sliced! If you want, you can also leave the banana in a fruit bowl or on the counter for someone to find and peel later to their amazement!
