Wanna' bring a little magic to your dinner table? Then join magician Ryan Oakes as he shows you how to make a glass of milk disappear between the pages of a magazine! Holy Cow!

A magazine (one with staples on the spine)
A glass of milk or other liquid
A clear plastic sandwich bag (Ziploc)
Clear tape

SOMETIMES WE USE MATERIALS THAT REQUIRE ADULT SUPERVISION…LIKE SCISSORS SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY AROUND WHENEVER YOU DO MAGIC TRICKS!

  1. To prepare, open your magazine to the center, where the staples are showing through from the spine. This is where you will attach your bag.
  2. Firmly tape your bag, open side up, to the center of one of the center pages, keeping it as close to the staples as possible. Line all of the sides with tape as tightly and securely as possible. Before you tape the top part of the bag down, open it up and slightly fold over the opening.
  3. Place the tape over the folds in the opening. Now the bag will want to stay open when you open the magazine but remain flat when you close it.
  4. To perform the trick, show the magazine to your audience without revealing the bag. Start by keeping your right index finger somewhere in the back in front of a few of the last pages. Open the cover to show the inside casually, and then open the back and flip through the last pages, completely skipping over where the bag is hidden.
  5. Open the magazine so the centerfold with the bag is facing you. This should be easy because the folded opening you’ve created in the bag should force it open naturally.
  6. Take the bottom corners of the magazine in both hands and curl them together. This will naturally form a cone shape. Use your left hand to grip the bottom of the magazine and hold the cone in place.
  7. If you need to at this point, use your right hand to open the bag more inside so you can pour the milk in. You can play this off to your audience as widening the opening of the cone.
  8. Time for the milk! Very carefully, slowly pour the milk into the bag in the magazine. Make sure no one sees into the top of the magazine or the jig is up.
  9. Count to three and then while holding the top of the magazine with your right hand, move your left hand from the bottom of the magazine funnel to the top pages.
  10. Open up the magazine with the centerfold still facing you. Make sure one of your thumbs holds the bag inside closed. With the bag holding the milk, your audience will think the milk has vanished!
  11. Close the magazine, making sure the bag is flattened closed with the milk inside.
  12. Casually flip through the magazine as you did before to really sell that the milk has vanished. Be sure to keep the pages sandwiching the bag shut together, and hold the magazine as upright as possible to prevent any spillage out of the sides.
  13. Keeping the magazine upright, carefully fold it in half and hold it folded in your left hand. Get ready to pour the milk back into the glass from the end of the magazine’s spine. If you taped the bag close enough to the staples inside, this should be easy.
  14. Grab your glass, tilt the magazine into it at the spine, and pour the milk back in. Your audience will think it magically reappeared!
